Robin Watson Yacht and Boat Builder
Katie Fontana, the owner of Zircon sailed her Camper & Nicholson sloop to Gweek Quay Boatyard for a new teak deck to be laid. David Walkey agreed to undertake the refit, and as part of Dave’s team I became involved.
Zircon was built by Camper & Nicholson in their Gosport yard in 1960. She is carvel construction of mahogany planking on rock elm frames.
A new solid swept teak deck was laid as the original had worn very thin and was leaking very badly. The coachroof sides were stripped and re varnished, the canvas covering on the top was removed and replaced with epoxy glass. The deck fittings were replaced or refurbished. The damaged toe rail was also repaired. The old steel fuel tanks were replaced with stainless steel tanks. 101 other little jobs were done to get Zircon ready for the next season.
