I designed September Song in 1988 basing her loosely on classic American schooner hull form, with the most noticeable deviation is that I chose a transom stern instead of the more usual counter. I also favoured Bermudan cutter headed ketch rig. I built and fabricated virtually everything, from the major parts like the hull and deck to mast and rigging fittings to the interior fit out.
The hull is Airex foam sandwich construction with the hardwood stringers left in and glassed over on the inside, she has an Iroko deck laid over marine plywood. I chose Douglas fir for the spars and galvanised wire for the standing rigging. The interior is Oak and teak trimmed Formica for comparatively low maintenance.
