Robin Watson Yacht and Boat Builder
I started working on Patna at the beginning of September. The outer part of the sternpost and fairing piece above the rudder have been replaced. The fastenings throughout the boat have been checked and replaced where necessary. The hull has had the seams below the waterline routed out and splined with pitch pine. The seam on the stem was very open and jagged so that too has had a spline glued to the stem.
Patna was the first Camper and Nicholson to be built in their yard after the First World War, in 1920.
She is 56 feet long on deck, constructed of pitch pine on oak frames. There are sawn and steamed frames to give a balance of stiffness and light weight.
Most of the original polished furniture will be reinstated with some minor alterations and repairs where required.
A new teak deckhouse under construction replacing the original much taller one. The
skylights are original, but have been kept in storage since 1929.
The original polished mahogany is in the process of being reinstated while the hull
is being painted.
The aim is to get the yacht hull and deck work finished so she can be pulled out
of the shed, where we will be able to re-hang the rudder and draw a couple of the
keel bolts for inspection.
